Showing a sitter and example image of exactly what you would like to achieve in the shoot is such a powerful tool. Part of our job is getting people on side and manipulating the situation - to get people to do things they may not necessarily want to do (or think they want to do) 






In editorial work we may want to illustrate the story in a certain way - This example involves Lib Dem Politican Ed Davey. He's a big guy and given his role in the Liberal Demorcrats I wanted him to look like a bit of a bouncer guarding the door.

Yep, I have been busying myself with editing, image selection, photoshop, html code and various vectors, buttons, textures and backgrounds. With a little help from a template and lots of midnight oil we have finished the revamp of our main website as part of our ongoing 2013 strategy. 

I'll post lots more visuals with a step by step on how I produced the website and created the visuals at a later date.
It's all part of our idea to evolve iconphotomedia and what we offer our clients in light of new technology and the changes in Visual Communications. Photography has changed along with the huge improvements in  communications. As a result Advertising has been flipped on it's head so traditional media outlets are rapidly changing to keep up. Rather than see all this as a negative (fitting pun) we Photographers should embrace the new opportunities. Ideas are our commodity - creativity is the currency of ideas and we are all wonderfully placed to realise this and use technology to expand those ideas. Think big as the World has just got a little smaller...

Section 44 I'm a photographer not a terrorist

As a street photographer (street photography and techniques in future posts, please check some of the work out at www.iconphotomedia.com) I have always been a keen supporter of http://photographernotaterrorist.org/ a collective of photographers determined to defend photography, press freedom and the creation of visual history in the United Kingdom.


 I received my own rather embarrassing section 44 back in November last year near Westminster, London. It was embarrassing as a new assistant, Adam, had just met me for the first time to discuss a shoot he was due to assist me with the very next day. After coffee and a chat about the state of professional photography and his future prospects,  I decided it would be a really good idea to have a recce of where I would shoot the magazine portrait and talk him through what I had planned. I literally only dropped two frames before we were challenged by two 'plastic' police, they were actually quite charming and friendly yet quite insistent on having to do a section 44 even though I explained what I was doing and showed the two (slightly over as I hadn't even got my exposure close yet) frames.  

I couldn't help myself shooting this cheeky frame as officer LX 7256 filled the details out. As of 8th July section 44 was suspended in the house of commons and photographers across the UK can now get on with their jobs without constantly being harassed by Police officers and Security Guards most of which are never nearly as friendly as the officer pictured here.
